The Alabama A&M baseball team scored double-digit runs for the second time on the weekend as they defeated Jackson State 12-9 on Sunday at Braddy Field to take the 2-1 series win to open SWAC play.
The Bulldogs got the scoring going in the first inning, as Tommy Easley scored after an RBI double from Jared Tribett to take the first lead of the game.
Jackson State tied the game in the bottom half of the inning on a sacrifice fly to center field, before taking a 2-1 lead in the third, adding another run off a pair of hits.
A&M took the lead for good in the fourth, exploding for six runs off four hits in the frame. Jalen Parker singled to lead off the inning and later scored on a two-out RBI single from Mekhi Lloyd. Chandler Stocking drew a walk on the next at-bat, followed by a single from Easley to drive in both Miles Jackson and Lloyd. Tribett hit a three-run bomb before the close of the inning to extend the lead to 7-2.
The Tigers fought to climb back in the game, scoring four in the bottom half of the fourth and three more combined in the seventh and eighth, falling short in their comeback effort.
Parker scored again in the fifth on an RBI single from Jackson, followed by singles from Stocking and Lloyd to drive home another two scores. Lloyd also drove in the final two runs for the Bulldogs in the seventh.
Four batters earned multiple hits on the day, led by Tribett who went 2-for-5 from the plate, along with four RBI, including the homer. Easley, Lloyd, and Stocking all drove in two runs in the win.
Noah Whitted (2-0) earned the win for the Bulldogs, allowing seven hits in a six inning start, while Dimitri Stamataplous worked the remaining 3.0 innings in relief, surrendering one run on three hits and striking out three batters.
