Information for AAMU Parents

Posted almost 7 years ago  in Parent & Family News.

You want to help your child succeed in college. We want to help you stay in touch and accomplish that goal. Bookmark this site to stay aware of key events and activities in your student's college career. You can also contact us when you feel your student needs extra support on campus or when you have a question or concern.

We invite you to be involved from day one. Please take our virtual tour of the Alabama A&M University (AAMU) campus with your student and see what life is like on what many alumni and friends fondly refer to as “the Hill.” Meet other parents, learn the basics of living on campus, see how your student will spend the next few years of their life.

At AAMU, your student can pursue their intellectual and social growth safely while obtaining a first-class education. Meanwhile, they can remain grounded in the values they learned at home. Well-informed parents and families enhance the student's experience and promote their success.

At AAMU, we provide programs and services that contribute to your student's total development. Our goal is to prepare your student to participate successfully both in a local and a global society. In the process, we help students learn to engage in analytical and critical thought and to become creative, productive members of their profession and society.

AAMU is located in Huntsville, the state's second largest media Designated Market Area (DMATM), in the mountain lakes region of North Alabama. The beauty of the area, the quality of entertainment, the variety of recreational activities are all part of the AAMU experience. On campus, AAMU provides your student with numerous activities, including 93 student organizations embracing a wide variety of activities.

Reflecting the uniqueness of the historic land-grant university, AAMU combines the traditional college experience with career-oriented and professional programs. We offer a variety of academic majors from the following schools:

  • College of Business and Public Affairs
  • College of Engineering, Technology and Physical Sciences
  • College of Education, Humanities and Behavioral Sciences
  • College of Agricultural Life and Natural Sciences

AAMU is part of the NCAA Division 1 athletic conference. Women's sports include basketball, bowling, cross country, soccer, softball, tennis, track and field, and volleyball. Men's sports include baseball, basketball, golf, soccer, tennis, track and field, and, of course, our Bulldogs football team. Then there's AAMU's national award-winning cheerleaders and the Marching Maroon and White Band, recognized as one of the best show bands in the nation.

Your support of your student's education is critical at Alabama A&M University. Working together, we will optimize your student's college experience.
